The Rossmoor Big Band
The Rossmoor Big Band, founded in 1996, is a 35+ piece stage jazz orchestra composed of adults and students from East Bay middle and high schools. The mission of the this unique inter-generational ensemble is to bring youth and adults together to learn, rehearse, perform and share great American jazz music.
In addition to the traditional “Big Band” instrumentation (rhythm section, saxophones, trombones and trumpets) the Rossmoor Big Band includes a violin string section and woodwinds to constitute a full jazz orchestra. In continuous operation since 1996, the Rossmoor Big Band presents four to six concerts a year in the event center of Rossmoor in Walnut Creek and other area venues in pursuit of its mission to bring youth and adult musicians together for learning and performance of a broad range of American jazz band music.
The band is also regular performer on the outdoor stage of the “Concert at the Res” in Lafayette. Many of the student musicians in the band over the years have gone on to top music schools in their college years and more than a few have made careers as professional musicians.
